The West Valley Fire Department Peer Support Team is a structured group of trained firefighters and department members who provide confidential, peer-to-peer emotional support, education, and resource coordination to personnel experiencing stress, trauma, or personnel challenges. The team operates within established policies and protocols to deliver emotional first aid, promote behavioral health awareness, and strengthen resilience across the organization, while also serving as a bridge to professional mental health services when needed.
Through both reactive support following potentially traumatic events and proactive efforts such as training and outreach, the Peer Support Team helps foster a culture of trust, psychological safety, and early intervention within the department.
